Cathédrale de la Major

Sightseeing

This Cathedral was built in the period from 1852 to 1896 and located in an area where already since the 5th century churches were built. The first stone was laid by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte. The remnants of the old churches in Vieille Major are still visible in the vicinity of the new Church. Cathérale de la Major is built in Byzantine style and has the shape of a Latin cross. There are wonderful images and altars. The magnificent dome is really worth a visit!
