This abbey is located 4 kilometers from the village of Le Thoronet and 22 kilometers from Draguignan. The abbey was founded in 1146 by monks of the Notre-Dame-de-Florièges Monastery, which was near Tourtour. The abbey with adjacent cloister is considered to be a highlight of the Romanesque architecture in Provence.
In 1791 the last monks left the abbey. In 1854 the former abbey was bought by the French government, with the aim of restoring the abandoned abbey. The abbey is now open to public for a fee. You can walk around by yourself, or with a guide.
