If you (because of the school holidays) are bound to a holiday in the busy July or August period it is good to know that there are also quiet coves and beaches on the South-coast of France. Beaches that are still not known, for example because you have to walk a bit to reach them. So do you want to avoid the busy beaches of Cannes, Nice, Antibes and Juan les Pins, put your car at the side of the road and descend on foot to the beautiful and quiet beaches of Théoule sur Mer!
Théoule-sur-Mer has seven public beaches in total, both sandy and pebbly beaches. They all look out at the Golfe de la Napoule with views of Cannes and the Iles de Lerins. We'll name three beaches:
- Plage de l'Aiguille is located on the Pointe de l'Aiguille and is part of the Parc de l'Aiguille. This is a regional natural park with an area of 7 hectares that extends to the red cliffs of the Estérel mountains.
- The wide, sandy beach of Plage de l'Aguille offers a nice view on a particularly intriguing rock formation. Are you here in the high season, then this beach is also a great place for the fireworks of Cannes to behold! Since the beach is bounded by a hill there is, there's also a lot of shade.
- After Plage de l'Aguille there are (located behind a large cliff) also three bays, one with a spectacular natural arch: les Criques de la pointe de l'Aguille. It is about a 20 minutes walk to these quiet bays. Weekends are often busier, as the local French are enjoying these bays as well. Are you a family with older children, then this will be your favourite beach, because you can jump of a 20 m high cliff.
