If you are bound to a holiday in the busy July or August period, it is good to know that there are also quiet bays and beaches on the southern French coast. Théoule-sur-Mer is located in the Alpes-Maritimes, on the border with the department of Var and extends over a coastline of 13 km. Do you want to leave the busy beaches of Cannes, Nice, Antibes and Juan le Pins behind, then park your car on the side of the road and descend on foot to one of the beautiful and quiet beaches of Théoule-sur-Mer.
Théoule-sur-Mer has a total of seven public beaches, both sandy beaches and pebbly beaches. They all overlook the Golfe de la Napoule with views of Cannes and the Iles de Lerins. As the first beach we mention Plage de l'Aiguille located on the Pointe de l'Aiguille and part of the Parc de l'Aiguille. This is a regional natural park with an area of 7 hectares that extends to the red cliffs of the Estérel mountains.
This public sandy beach is located at the end of Promenade André Pradayrol in Théoule-sur-Mer. On this beach you will find restaurant d'Aguilles where you can eat delicious fresh fish.
Do not forget to bring your goggles and snorkel gear as the water is very clear and there are many fish to see. The beautiful places to snorkel, the so-called 'Sentier de découverte sous-marin de la Pointe de l Aiguille' is marked with buoys. Here the underwater life for snorkelers is extra beautiful!
The wide sandy beach of Plage de l'Aguille offers a beautiful view of a very intriguing rock formation. Are you there in the high season, then this beach is also a great place to view the fireworks of Cannes! Since the beach is bordered by a hill, there is also ample shade, if you do not want to sunbathe.
The beach after Plage de l'Aguille is located behind a large cliff with three bays, one with a spectacular natural arch: les Criques de la pointe de l'Aguille. It is about 20 minutes walk to these bays where it is quiet, especially during the week. At the weekend it's busy because the local French people find their way to these bays ... For families with older children this will be one of the favorite beaches, you can get off the 20 meter high cliff to jump.
The beaches of Théoule-sur-Mer are beautiful because of the different heights that the area offers. On the one hand the slightly rising hills of Cannes and on the other the foothills of the Esterel mountains. These provide savage coves on the coast with jagged rock peaks. The red and ocher-colored rocks in combination with the azure blue sea provide beautiful views. The beaches are more or less a 'secret destination', not yet discovered by mass tourism. For those who appreciate a quiet beach, it is now hoped that this will stay that way for a long time! Just a small tip: water shoes are not a luxury!
