Eze is one of the most beautiful villages on the Côte d'Azur and deserves to be in the spotlight in our blog. If you spend your holiday near Nice, it's a missed opportunity if you don't go there!
The small medieval village of Èze is situated on a hill (429 meters above sea level) and offers a truly spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea and the surroundings. In clear weather you can even see Corsica. Because of the special location of this village high on the hill, Eze was called an "Eagle's Nest". The picturesque village has a characteristic church, many narrow streets, steep streets and many stairs. There are also nice shops, art galleries and restaurants. The number of flowers (Bougainville) is overwhelming. Eze is a photogenic village, every time you get around the corner, you have a different view. The diversity of landscapes forces us to photograph. Bringing a good camera is therefore not a luxury.
Speaking of flowers: Eze is also famous for its beautiful garden (Le jardin exotique d'Èze). Visit the garden and you will see a beautiful collection of 400 different types of cacti, agaves and aloes and succulents and at the same time you have a breathtaking view over the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding area. It is a climb to get there because the garden is at the highest point of the village. But it's absolutely worth it! The garden is also a nice place to picnic and is certainly a nice addition to your visit to Èze.
Also nice to do is to visit the Fragonard perfume factory in the village. You can go there for a free tour. The guide tells you about the history of the factory and how they make their perfume. Of course, the delicious products are sold at the end of the tour. From 15 euros you have really nice perfumes, nice as a souvenir to bring a gift for the home!
Finally, a tip for sports enthusiasts who like a bit of adventure: the Nietzsche Path! Are you in possession of a good condition and walking shoes, then a visit to Eze via the Nietzsche Path is a nice challenge. This pebble path takes you from sea level to the 429 meters high Eze-Village. The climb takes about one and a half hours. The Nietzsche Path starts opposite the train station of Èze (Èze-sur-Mer) and is signposted.
As the name suggests, the path was discovered by Friedrich Nietzsche. This German philosopher loved adventure. Climb this path and you will agree! The ascent of the path is heavy. Not because the path is too rocky, too tortuous or otherwise impassable, but because of the ever rising. At the start you may think 'it is not so bad', but over time it becomes heavier and heavier. The beautiful views along the way and the feeling that you have once you've done it and have a drink on a terrace is all right!
In short, this gem on the Côte d'Azur is a must for everyone! The cozy, relaxing atmosphere in the village of Eze, the narrow streets, the white sandy beaches nearby and the panoramic vistas not only give you the typical French feeling, but also a real holiday feeling!
