Since May 28, 2020, the mediation in the rental of holiday homes falls under the application of the "Act on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing" (AML). This European law applies to all providers of real estate rentals (including holiday homes). For VillaSud, based in The Netherlands, this means a legal obligation to verify your identity as a customer of VillaSud.
What does this mean for you? When you place a reservation request with us for a villa or holiday home, we will verify your identity. After we have received your reservation request, you will receive a separate email from us with a link for verifying your identity. With it, you can easily confirm your identity to us online by uploading a copy of your identity document. Once your identity is confirmed, you will receive your reservation confirmation from us.
GDPR compliant environment For VillaSud, DebiteurenZeker is the recognized partner for identifying both our renters and rental owners. This is done, of course, in a GDPR compliant and secure environment. This means everything is in accordance with the privacy legislation of the European Union (EU) known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
And the owner of the villa? Not only are you as a renter asked to verify your identity. VillaSud also verifies the identity of every owner whose property is offered for rent through VillaSud. This means that for every villa in the portfolio, the owner's identity has been verified before the villa is offered for rent. A reassuring thought for you as a renter, we think.
